I have just decided to return the drives and replace them with Fantom Drives, which have always been a higher quality, have faster transfer speeds, and seem to last longer. I think it's some type of software issue, I've heard of people having this issue before. This is simple to do and means the data on your drive/USB stick can be read and written on both Macs and PCs. Yes, I reformatted both drives to exFat format, as the rest of my drives are. If you have an NTFS drive you can use macOS’ Disk Utility to reformat it to FAT32. You could also try testing the drive for errors, even though it would be quite an unfortunate coincidence for 2 drives to be having issues at the same time: How to test a drive for defects or problems on a Mac. I'd recommend that you check that link and follow all the suggestions, to see if they help you figure out what might be wrong here: WD external hard drive is not powering on or is not recognized on a Mac system. Do you have any data on them which you need to recover? Are you sure they've been properly formatted for Mac OS X? I'm really sorry to hear about the problems you're having with those drives.
